This poem is number one.  It is a new style I am experimenting with.  I usually write freestyle,  I think that for the most part, songs and poems that are prone to follow a set of rules can be a fun challenge, I think the are designed by the author as a way of eliminating potential competitors LOL,   This challenge is to make a profound and complete thought, as most poems, but the rules limit what you can do.  This type of poem is called a tetractys style poem.


TETRACTYS:

Tetractys should express a complete thought, profound or comic, witty or wise using 20 syllables. They can be written with more than one verse but each subsequent verse must invert the syllable count. There is no limit to the number of verses. The structure is:

line 1 - 1 syllable
line 2 - 2 syllables
line 3 - 3 syllables
line 4 - 4 syllables
line 5 - 10 syllables

End of first verse, optional second and additional verses must be inverted

line 5 - 10 syllables
line 4 - 4 syllables
line 3 - 3 syllables
line 2 - 2 syllables
line 1 - 1 syllable

Darkness

Deafening

Frozen in time

Why have they left me alone in this place

I can no longer count the missing years
